Beginning in 2026–2027, Westside Metros will align with the national return to a school-year age model. 

All major organizations including Girls Academy (GA), MLS NEXT Academy Division, ECNL, US Club Soccer, and USYS (OYSA) will align with this structure nationwide.

Youth soccer previously operated under the school-year system until 2016, when it shifted to calendar birth year (Jan 1–Dec 31).

The move back to school year alignment is designed to better match players with classmates, improve roster continuity, and reduce “trapped player” situations.

Our staff is working to make this transition for players and families as easy as possible.

What this Means for Players

• 2026-2027 tryouts and team placements will follow the August 1 – July 31 age groups
• Players born August - December are the most likely to shift
• Teams will align more closely by graduation year
• College recruiting timelines become clearer
• Our focus remains long-term player growth – not short-term labels
